Nostalgia....
Tuesday is Retro Day in The Star, and last Tuesday (25th March) they had got to O for Orienteering. They featured pictures from articles from the 1970's and 1980's, pictures of familiar Orienteers of the day (if you have my longevity) and the start of a prestigious event from that time.
SYO Champions
SYO members have had sucess at the recent YHOA Championships at Stoodley Pike and the YHOA middle distance Championships at Givendale.
At Stoodley Pike, there were just 2 YHOA champions, Louise Adams W16, and Gill Harrington W55.
At Givendale there were 6 champions, 4 from one family! These were Louise Adams, W16, Michael Adams, M18, Charlie Adams, M50 and Janet Adams W50. Also Euan Tryner M10 and Peter Gorvett M65.

Beryl and Guy
Long standing SYO members Beryl and Guy Seaman have now moved from Sheffield to their new house in Gairloch in the North West Scottish Highlands. Thanks to them for their help at many SYO events during their membership. They are now INVOC members and already involved with their new club, with Guy contemplating doing some mapping around Gairloch.
Loxley Common Middle Distance Race 16th March 2014
SYO held a successful event today on Loxley Common. A small but experienced team of helpers saw the event run smoothly and returning runners were full of praise for the courses planned by Ryan Wilson who was ably controlled by his Dad Clive. This was Ryan's first foray into planning a major event so well done!
Charles Hird had updated the map and fought a guerrilla war with Wadsley Commoners who seemed to wait until he had remapped a bit and then went to cut back the trees in that area. So well done to Charles as well!
