Dales Trophy
Several SYO members enjoyed excellent weather and great views at the Dales Weekend on the 12/13th September. Dales Trophy winners based on the two day's results were Shane Lynch on M21, Tony Hall on M45 and Alex Hall on M12. Other notable results were Tim Tett 3rd on M21 and Bill Hanley 2nd on M55. Unable to attend were several of our M/W 14-18's who enjoyed good conditions in Northern Ireland at the Junior Inter Regional Championships.
White Rose 2009
Well done to all the SYO runners who competed at the 2009 White Rose Weekend in North Yorkshire. There were 7 orienteering events in just 3 days.
Congratulations to the winners of the regional events; Jenny Johnson 1st on W21, Jeff Colbert 1st on M21S, Oli Johnson 1st and Tim Tett 2nd on M21, Simon Bradbury 2nd on M16, Janet Adams 2nd on W45, Alex Hall 3rd on M12, Katherine Hall 3rd on W14, Alex Kilcoyne 3rd on W18 and Moira Chapman 3rd on W21S.
Also well done to the winners of the other events that were on at the White Rose. In the new Hill Race, Oli Johnson came 1st in the mens and Alex Kilcoyne and Jenny Johnson came 1st and 2nd respectively in the womens.
In the Sprint which was also new this year, juniors Simon Bradbury and Alex Kilcoyne did brilliantly to finish 4th in the mens and womens respectively.
SYO also did well in the Night Score Event with Katherine Hall 1st and Cari Littler 3rd in Young Junior Women, Adam Bradbury 2nd and Simon Bradbury 3rd in Junior Men, Oli Johnson 1st in Senior Men and Guy Seaman 2nd in Senior Veteran Men.
At the Mountain Bike Orienteering Score event Charlie Adams was 1st on the Veteran Mens course and Simon Bradbury was also 1st on the Youth course on his first ever MTBO event.
In the Team Score Relays Tim Tett, Jenny Johnson and Adam Bradbury were 1st by 26 seconds on the Mixed (1 woman) course. Katherine Hall, Cari Littler and Alex Kilcoyne were 1st on the 48- All women course.
Scottish Six Day Tay 2009
A strong turnout of 66 SYO members yielded some great results at the Scottish Six Day event. Aidan Smith, fresh from the British Orienteering summer training camp at Lagganlia, was class leader on M14A with an impressive 6 minute lead on Day 5 and was the 1st under 16 on the long sprint on the rest day. Pete Tryner battled it out with FVO's Rodger Goddard to secure joint 1st on M35S. Peter Gorvett was the overall class leader on M60L. Jenny Peel secured 2nd place overall on W40L, managing to get in the top 3 on every day! Jenny Lightfoot was 3rd on W35S.
Rob Baker also finished 8th on the M21E course and was the 2nd male on the Long sprint on the rest day. Also to Kim Baxter was 9th on the W21E course. As for the run-in competition, Martin Ward managed an impressive 3rd place out of over 3000 runners! Full results here.
Senior and Home Internationals seclections
Congratulations to the SYO members selected to represent England in the forthcoming Senior and Veteran Home Internationals. The SHI takes place in Northern Ireland, and Oli Johnson, Matt Crane and Neil Northrop have all been selected in M21, plus Jenny Johnson is selected in W21. The VHI is in England, on Eyam and Longshaw, and the selections include Nick Barrable (M35), Martin Ward (M40), Charlie Adams (M45), and Peter Gorvett (M60).
The Welsh and Scottish teams have not been published yet, but could also include some SYO members.
O-Ringen success for Aidan
Congratulations to Aidan Smith on another great performance at the Swedish 5-days (O-Ringen) in Småland. Running category H14, Aidan won the last day, to finish 4th overall out of around 200 in the class.
