Scottish Weekend
Last weekend a few devoted SYO members travelled up to Scotland for a series of orienteering events. First up on Saturday was a sprint around the Kings' Buildings at Edinburgh Univeristy. The British Night Championships was also on Saturday at Dreghorn Barracks. This was tough area at night, made even more so by several inches of ground snow, but nonetheless Simon Bradbury and Martin Ward won their classes to become British Night Champions in M16 and M40L respectively. This event was filmed by BBC Scotland. On Sunday there was an event at Gullane Dunes, a lovely Scottish area with detailed contours, the sea on one side and a golf course on the other.
Well done to SYO's new British Night Champions, Simon and Martin, and to all the other SYO members who competed at these events.
Katherine helps England to victory at Interland
Katherine Hall won the D14 class at the Interland international competition in Belgium on Sunday, with a convincing lead of almost 4 minutes. Other SYO members running well in the England team were Aidan Smith (5th in H16), Nick Barrable (2nd in H21) and Tim Tett (2nd in H50).
New British Orienteering Ranking List Launched
British Orienteering maintains a ranking list of orienteers, based on results from ranking events. The new ranking system includes everyone in a single list, which can then be filtered (by age class, gender, and by club). The list also shows the number of positions you have moved up, or down, since the previous week. Here's a ranking list of SYO members.
SYO members selected to represent England at Interland
Five members of SYO have been selected by the English Orienteering Association to run in Interland, which this year is being held in Belgium. The five are M16 Aidan Smith, M21 Oli Johnson, M50 Tim Tett, M60 Peter Gorvett and W14 Katherine Hall.
