Training opportunity - Sat 21 March

This training will run longside the junior & adult improver coaching and is aimed at experienced club members. It will be DIY - there will be controls out and maps provided and you can plan whatever exercises / courses you fancy from the all controls map. 

This will require additional controls to the ones being used for the coaching session so please let us know if you intend to come by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You can choose from a normal map or a map without paths for an extra challenge. There will no charge but you must and order your map by Friday 20th March. Please meet at 12.45pm at the Rural Lane car park.

CompassSport Cup success

SYO had a very successful day at Sherwood Pines on Sunday 15th March, winning the regional round of the CompassSport Cup very comfortably, with 2400 points out of a possible maximum of around 2480, well ahead of DVO in second place with 2307.  Full results can be found here.  We had 5 course winners and of those Louise Adams, Charlie Adams and Alistair Buckley each won by 4 mins and Kim Baxter by a very impressive 6 mins on the open Women's course.
 
We had an excellent turnout with many juniors running for SYO for the first time;  hopefully they enjoyed the experience and will be back for more.  Congratulations to all; even if a result’s score didn’t count for SYO directly; it can reduce the scores of runners from other clubs. 
 
This result qualifies us for the final on 18th October on Helsington Barrows near Kendal, so put it in your diary now!

Forge Dam Event Postponed

Following an inspection of paths around Forge Dam today we have decided that it will not be safe to hold the event tomorrow as the likelihood of competitors falling and injuring themselves on the ice is just too high.  Whilst many paths have improved since our inspection on Wednesday there is still a large amount of compacted snow and ice on many of the paths around Forge Dam and Whiteley Woods.  In several places you can't go around the ice so you would have to slip and slide across.

The current plan is to now hold the event on Saturday 28th February.  The coaching that was originally planned on that day will be rescheduled.

Ecclesall Coaching

Although the events on Ramsley Moor had to be cancelled last weekend there was still some orienteering over the weekend.  Despite the snowy conditions, 46 people attended the training in Ecclesall Woods on Saturday ranging in age from 5 to 50.
