Parking
Parking is on the streets around Walkley – ideally on roads to the NW/WNW of the Florist pub so you are not in the event area. Please respect residents and don’t block drives. A map showing the embargoed area is shown below:
Palm street, Freedom road and Carr road are in the embargoed area but are not being used on the courses so are ok to park on. Please do not park anywhere else in the embargoed area. Suggested roads for parking are shown on the map below:
Road Closure
We have been made aware that there are planned road closures on Sunday. Unfortunately, the details aren’t very clear. We think the north end of South Road will be closed – see red crosses on the map (as this was the case last Sunday). If this is the case, then you should be able to turn down Carr Road. However, there is also mention that Walkley Road may also be closed. Please allow extra time for your Journey to account for this if you are coming from the south.
Public Transport
Travel by public transport is encouraged. Buses 95 and 95A goes from Meadowhall past the train station and has a stop at South Road/Palm Street which is only a short walk to the florist pub.
You can also get the Blue (from Halfway) or Yellow (from Meadowhall) trams to Hillsborough and walk to assembly along Walkley lane, cutting through Stony Walk on to Woodview Road and then Elliottville Street, then turn left on Walkley bank road to reach the Florist pub (about 1km)
Assembly and registration
The Florist pub (185 Walkley Road S6 2XN) have kindly agreed to let us use their facilities for download. What 3 words ///tribes.remedy.left. There will be some toilets here. Other toilets are available at the nearby Morrisons and Tesco supermarkets. They will be serving drinks and have bar snacks (Crisps and nuts etc) but do not do food; however they have said you are welcome to eat your own food their while having a drink. Please do support them.
Start and finish.
Both the start and finish are behind Walkley School. Please see the map below for the route. It will be taped and it is about 600m. It does cross a moderately busy road (Walkley Road) which is not marshalled, so please accompany under 16s to the start and arrange to meet them at the finish and walk back with them. There is a children's playground adjacent to the finish.
Courses
You are free to run any course you like but if you want to count in the UKUL and YHOA urban league you must run the course recommended for your class. By special request, we have added a men's and women's sprint course - these results were not count in the UKUL & YHOA urban leagues.
Course distances are based on optimum routes. The area is very hilly. Under 16s are not permitted to run courses 1-5. They are however permitted to run the women and men's sprint courses (8 & 9).

9. Women's Sprint | Open | 2.6 | 80 | 22 | 1:4000 |
Course 1 (Men’s Open) has 36 controls. If your SI dibber is an old version that can’t record this many you can borrow a high capacity dibber from SYO at Enquiries.
Please note: The nature of the area and the planned courses mean that controls and the red lines between them are close together and with a number of cross-overs. Every effort has been made to make the position of the control numbers obvious with a very small number of ‘bent’ lines between controls and to minimise circles, numbers and leg lines from obscuring map detail. We shouldn’t need to remind you to check control codes!
Terrain
The terrain comprises of housing estates on hilly terrain, consisting of paved paths and minor roads with some grassy areas. Courses will be 90-95% on tarmac but the short sections that go on or could cross over grassed areas can be slippery, especially if it is wet. There are small parkland areas where there are sections of higher vegetation. This can generally be avoided with appropriate route choice. A control on courses 1 and 2 is on the property of an SYO member. The control can be seen from the driveway gate. Full leg cover is not required.

Registration: 10am – 12pm
Starts: 10:30am until 12:30pm

Results
Provision results will be on display at download. Final results will be posted on the SYO website as soon as possible after the event.
Control Descriptions
Loose control descriptions are available for all courses. These are pictorial. Control descriptions are also printed on the map and will be textual on the map for course 7.
Additional safety information
Junior courses will cross minor roads, mostly with very little traffic; however please advise your children to take care. All other courses will cross roads but no main roads. Please take care to watch out for members of the public and other competitors. Competitors take part at their own risk & are responsible for their own safety. First Aid will be available at the finish.
The housing estates being used for the competition are quite compact in places with narrow footpaths and will involve lots of sharp turns around corners, up and down steps, etc. There will be local residents, some elderly, as well as other competitors being potential hazards. Please be careful and I particular allow the local residents to go about their usual Sunday routines.
At enquiries we will have a place to store car keys. All lone drivers must leave their keys here and if you have come alone by other means (bike, walk, public transport, etc) please can you leave your
details at enquiries. If you have a pre-existing medical condition that you need us to be aware of in case of emergency, please complete a medical form and leave it at enquiries.
