Planner's comments
Firstly, apologies to Green course competitors for the error whereby the control descriptions on the map were correct but the loose description sheet had a control omitted. I had added a control at a very late stage to make control 11 into control 12 to avoid potential confusion as control 1 was nearby and “11” and “1” are too similar. All the maps & courses were fine, but I was still awaiting the BUOC Relay controls to create the All Controls. These came at a very late stage & I then imported courses & controls onto a wider map of the area to encompass the BUOC ones & sent them separately to Mick Lucking. Unfortunately, I had used the Condes file previous to the Green Course change & Mick had no way of knowing it was incorrect & no reason not to use it for the full All Controls.

Thanks to all helpers, particularly Paul Addison (controller) and Louise Reynolds (organiser) who both ended up with perhaps more of a workload than they were expecting, Colin Drury and Kris Groom (planners) and Ian Cooper (mapper).
Final details are available above. There have been a couple of minor additions on16th February in RED.
There is limited EOD between 10-11am except on courses green, short green and very short green.
Join us for a fabulous weekend of racing on two of SYO's premier areas and help us celebrate our 50th anniversary. Sunday's event takes us Wharncliffe, which was previously used for the British Championships in 2011 and the Northern Championships in 2019. The varied terrain, comprising of intricate former mine workings on the wooded slopes, the intricate rock detail of the Edge and the runable open moorland of The Chase, will provide a significant physical and technical challenge to the country's best orienteers. It is part of the YHOA Superleague and the British Universities Relays are also being held alongside the event.

Venue
Wharncliffe Woods and Wharncliffe Chase is one of SYOs best orienteering areas, having been used several times previously for the British Championships and other major events. The terrain is a mixture of runnable woodland, thicker plantation, and open moorland on the Chase. Several areas of intricately contoured former mining works exist on the slope, and there is a good variety of rock detail.
Wharncliffe is a tough area, both physically and technically and with good course planning provides an excellent orienteering challenge.
