YBT @ Sandringham: this Sunday
Dear Juniors & accompanying Parents/supporters,
Only a few days to go, and all arrangements are in place; the weather forecast looks perfect, and it promises to be an exciting day at Sandringham. Team SYO will be based at the club tent - with the SYO windflag - alongside the run in, near Assembly. Feel free to bring anything you wish for a 'picnic in the park' - food & drink/chairs/rugs/bats & balls.
Coach: please meet at 07:15 latest at the Botanical Gardens entrance, Clarkhouse Road S10 2LN. The coach will leave as soon as we are all aboard. There will not be a toilet on the coach - and hopefully there will only be one brief stop en-route, so please plan accordingly!
Start times: these are now available on Fabian4. The Start is 300m from Assembly, call-up at -4 mins.
Event Programme: the latest version (currently 29/6/2019) is on our YBT page, but some info (eg. course distances) is only available on the WAOC website (link also on our YBT page). Please read before Sunday, to ensure you understand all the details, and bring everything you need. There is a lot of helpful information, and I would draw particular attention to the following:
- Out Of Bounds (OOB): please check the map to ensure that neither competitors or accompanying parents are in the OOB area at any time before or during the competition.
- Parking: this is in a dedicated event car park - please follow signage.
- Dibbers: SI punching will be used. (Hire dibbers will be available at the SYO tent)
- Non YBT Courses: all competitors must have finished their run by 12:30, and there will be no starts after 11:45 for those competitors.
- Food & drink: although there is a cafe, please bring sufficient provisions for the whole day, as the coach may not be back in Sheffield until 1900. A minimum of 1 litre of water is suggested.
- Clothing: full leg cover is mandatory - please ensure there are no 'ankle gaps'.
- Map: The scale is 1:10,000, with contour interval of 2.5m (it's a very flat area!). This is not what our SYO Juniors will be used to, as contour intervals are more usually 5m, and our maps are often larger scale. Examples of previous Sandringham courses, and some Photo Spheres are available on our SYO YBT Page. Juniors may wish to spend some time looking at the maps, and the Photo Spheres, which give an idea of the terrain. There will be an opportunity to look at Sandringham maps at Clubnight on Wednesday (hard copies will be given out), and also on the coach.
Rucksack: we will be based all day at the club tent, away from the coach, so it is suggested that all possessions are packed in a rucksack.
