16:51 (From the results team...) 18:23 - Update - Routegadget loaded
Well all seasons in one day. Very few competitors were around to witness the marquee trying to go airborne. Hope you all enjoyed your runs. Massive thank you to everyone helping.
Winsplits, Routegadget and results by class are available on the links above. Any changes, corrections etc. that you let us know about at download are in a soggy heap and I'll get to them once dry (not sure if I mean me or them). If anyone spots any problems in the results
For all those club secretaries, newsletter people etc. you can see the results for your club here
Organisers comments
Wow, the forcast couldn't have been worse, 3cm of snow at my house when I woke up, but hardly any at the landfill site when we got there. It was at times warm and sunny, the horizontal sleet and tent lifting winds mostly held off.
It did look a mess when we left, you will be glad to know that there will be 800 houses on the area leading to the gate, starting building end of the month, which is why all the trees had been destroyed. Hope you enjoyed the forest and the courses, didn't get too cold and have washed off all the mud by the end of the week.
A big thanks to all the helpers, especially those that took on the bigger jobs and stayed to the bitter end.
I have 3 thumb compasses and a few other bits and bobs if you have lost anything. Did you win a dish that needs a small wire stand, I have that too.
Thanks for coming and showing your northern grit, winners so well deserved.
Lucy

Northern Champs Prizes
The prizes for the Northern Champs have arrived! Fabulous metal water bottles for the first 3 on all Elite, A and Long (not 18, 20 & 21 long) classes and the winners on M/W10-16 B courses. Make sure you attend the prize giving to claim your prize.....
The 2019 Northern Championships will take place in Wharncliffe Woods, offering a fabulous chance to orienteer in one of SYO's best orienteering areas with courses planned by former GB orienteers Oli & Jenny Johnson. The area was previously used for the British Championships in 2011 and will provide a significant physical and technical challenge to the country's best orienteers.
This event is the 2nd race in the UK Elite Orienteering League, the 4th race in the UK Orienteering League and is a key selection race for juniors interested in the GB talent squad & JROS summer training camps. It is also part of Sheffield's month long Festival of the Outdoors.
Terrain & Map
The terrain is a mixture of runnable woodland, thicker plantation, and open moorland on the chase. Several areas of intricately contoured former mining works exist on the slope, and there is a good variety of rock detail.
Map updated by Oli Johnson in 2018.

Venue
Wharncliffe Woods and Wharncliffe Chase is one of SYOs best orienteering areas, having been used several times previously for the British Championships and other major events. The terrain is a mixture of runnable woodland, thicker plantation, and open moorland on the Chase. Several areas of intricately contoured former mining works exist on the slope, and there is a good variety of rock detail.
Wharncliffe is a tough area, both physically and technically and with good course planning provides an excellent orienteering challenge.
