A great turnout today and for once the weather was kind to us!
Thank you to all our helpers especially Mark Dakin for planning and Aislinn Prendergast and helpers for getting all the controls out and back in again. Hope you all visited the cake and drinks tent to support the juniors!

Information
Enjoy the challenge of orienteering on the open heathland of Parkwood Springs with stunning views across Sheffield. This is a Saturday Afternoon Series event aimed at introducing newcomers to orienteering and an event in the SFSS primary and secondary schools orienteering league. There will also be long technical courses for over 16s venturing to the ancient Rowe Woods and the intricate housing of the Firshill Estate.
Registration for the events will open at 12:30pm and you can start any time from 12:30pm – 3pm. All courses close at 3:30pm at which time we will start to collect controls so please make sure you start early enough to complete your course in time.
Schools Event
Running alongside the public event is an event in the Sheffield Schools Orienteering League for both Primary and Secondary pupils. Entry to the schools event is free if your school is a member of the SFSS and you are in Y3 or above. Information about the SFSS Orienteering League is here
Costs
Adults £6, (members £5) for green & blue.
Adults £5 (members £4) white to long orange
Children £2 (Free for the first run if you are in Y3 or above and your schools is in the SFSS)
Any additional courses will cost an additional £1 (Or £2 if your previous run was free)
If you would like to go around in a group you would just pay for one entry, plus £1 for each extra map.
Travel and parking
Nearest postcode S5 8XA. Parking is available off Shirecliffe Road this may fill fairly rapidly so if full please parkconsiderately on surrounding roads. Buses seem to be pretty regular with a variety of routesPlan your journey
Entries
All courses are entry on the day. You just have to turn up, pick a course and fill in an entry form. There will be people on hand to help you if you have any questions.
If you ran one of the previous schools events in the series then you should have completed an entry form an been given a number. With the number we are able to add you into the results system much quicker.
For those who would like to do a second run you will need to complete another entry slip with the same details as before. You are welcome to fill this out in advance and bring it with you when you download (with the £1 entry fee for the second course) and we can give you a map to save queuing again.
Facilities
Toilets and a refreshment stand run by the SYO juniors selling hot and cold drinks and cakes. Proceeds will go towards funding travel and entry fees at the major junior competitions.
Safety
The area has several popular mountain bike trails, courses are designed so that you should not need to run along them and please be very careful when crossing them.
The blue & green courses cross numerous roads. Under 16s are only allowed to compete on these courses if shadowed by an adult.

SYO Photography Policy
Please be aware that photography is permitted at all our events by spectators and parents though not anywhere where children may be changing e.g. club tent, car park, toilets, changing areas. Whilst the sharing of images taken at our events is not forbidden, please do think about how and where you share them and do not display children's names with the image.
Any parents not wishing their children to be photographed should inform the Event Organiser and a wristband will be issued. Photographers should not take photos of any child wearing a wristband and any that are accidently taken should be deleted. SYO will not share photos of children on websites, social media, posters, in the press and other publications unless we have parental permission.
If you have any concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography please report them to an Event Official.
Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
Photography
SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser.
