Well done to everyone for braving the showers today. Some managed to stay dry but I think most of you got soaked once or twice out there!

As this was the last event in the schools league we need everyone to check that all their results for the league are showing (we haven't loaded the league results up for today yet). You can check them here. We are holding the prize-giving at our event at Forge Dam on Saturday 17 June. We will also have the calendar for next years events then as well.

Don't forget that before then the Yorkshire Schools Championships take place at our event at Treeton on 4th June. I hope to see you all there with all our Sheffield schools taking a clean sweep of prizes!

Event Information

This is a combined Sheffield Schools and Saturday Afternoon series aimed to introduce new people to the sport but also provide local orienteering to experienced orienteers. Alongside the normal white to light green courses, there will be a full range of courses for experienced orienteers from very short green course to brown which take in the intricate contoured area in Cobnar Woods.

Registration for courses will open at 1pm.  You can start any time from 1pm - 3pm (Light Green & above 12.30-2.30pm) but the courses close at 3:30pm. We will be based by the Cafe. The nearest car park is at the Rare Breeds Centre off Hemsworth Road this is Pay & Display and will fill very quickly.  There is plenty of parking on the roads around the park but please park considerately.  This link shows where Registration is and some parking suggestions  map

Schools Event

Running alongside the public event is the final event in the Sheffield School Orienteering League for both Primary and Secondary pupils.  Entry to the schools event is free if your school is a member of the Sheffield Federation of School Sports (SFSS).  Information about the SFSS Orienteering League is here.  It is not necessary for a teacher to be present from the school.

Entries

All courses are entry on the day.  You just have to turn up, pick a course and fill in an entry form.  There will be people on hand to help you if you have any questions.

If you ran one of the previous schools events in the series then you should have completed an entry form an been given a number.  With the number we are able to add you into the results system much quicker.  You can download an entry form with your details on from the registration page using the registration number and email address.

If this will be the first event you have attended this year then please go the the registration page and enter your details.  If you don't get chance to do this before the event then you can still register at the event.  REGISTRATION PAGE

For those who would like to do a second run you will need to complete another entry slip with the same details as before.  You are welcome to fill this out in advance and bring it with you when you download (with the £1 entry fee for the second course) and we can give you a map to save queuing again.

Costs

Adults  - £4 white to light green, £6 very short green & above (£1 discount to members)

Children £2.  Children running a schools courses whose school is a member of the SFSS are free.

Any additional courses will cost an additional £1

If you would like to go around in a group you would just pay for one entry.

Orienteering Courses Available

If you complete a course and there is still time you are welcome to try another.

Yellow	Y6-Y7	1.6km 65m Climb	2	The next step up and a good place for teenagers etc. to start.  The course will use paths but also other line features - Fences, streams etc. It will also no longer have a control every time you need to decide where you are going. For example you may need to make a couple of turns on paths between controls
Orange	Y8-Y9	2.4km 125m Climb	3	Harder still, the Orange course introduces: Choosing routes - e.g. should I go round the paths to the left or right Using 'Point Features' as control sites Basic use of a compass
Long Orange	Y10+	4.1km 180m Climb	3	The same technical difficulty as the Orange, but longer...
Light Green		3.2km 130m Climb	4	Ideal for improvers  The navigation difficulty increases and you start to use simple contours and point features.
V S Green		2.3km 120m climb	5	As hard as the area allows but avoids the physically tough terrain.
Short Green		3.3km 120m climb	5	As for the very short green but slightly longer.
Green		4.8km 220m climb	5	As hard as the area allows. Criss crosses the whole park taking in the woodland valleys.
Blue		5.8km 260m climb	5	As for green but longer.....
Brown		7km 300m climb		As hard and as long as the area will allow.

 SYO Photography Policy

Please be aware that photography is permitted at all our events by spectators and parents though not anywhere where children may be changing e.g. club tent, car park, toilets, changing areas. Whilst the sharing of images taken at our events is not forbidden, please do think about how and where you share them and do not display children's names with the image. Any parents not wishing their children to be photographed should inform the Event Organiser and a wristband will be issued. Photographers should not take photos of any child wearing a wristband and any that are accidently taken should be deleted. SYO will not share photos of children on websites, social media, posters, in the press and other publications unless we have parental permission. If you have any concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography please report them to an Event Official.
