Results
You can view the results using the links above, they still need a bit of work, and we will be seperating out the schools competition and putting it here and on the SFSS webite. This may take a couple of days to sort out though. There are also split times available. If anyone spots an error or can identify missing names / years / schools then please send me the information.
Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the orienteering today, a fantastic turnout makes all the effort worthwhile. Thanks to Colin Best for planning, putting out and collecting the courses, and to all the other volunteers who make these events happen.
The next Schools event is on 17th October at Weston Park, but you can get your orienteering fix earlier at Rivelin, from Wyming Brook on the 12th.
Thanks
Pete

Start Times from 1 - 3pm
Beginners Coaching
A beginners coaching session alongside the event. This will start at 1pm and last for an hour giving you an opportunity to try your new skills out on a course.
Schools Event
Running alongside the public event is the first event in the SFSS Orienteering League for both Primary and Secondary pupils. Entry to the schools event is free if your school has entered. Information about the SFSS Orienteering League is here
Orienteering Courses Available
If you complete a course and there is still time you are welcome to try another.
See below for details on the courses on offer. Distances are provisional
Course | Distance | Technical Level | Who is it for? |
White | 1.4km | 1 | The easiest course and a great place for children to start. The course is entirely on paths and each time you have to make a decision - which path to take, there will be a control point. |
Yellow | 1.8km | 2 | The next step up and a good place for teenagers etc. to start. The course will use paths but also other line features - Fences, streams etc. It will also no longer have a control everytime you need to decide where you are going. For example you may need to make a couple of turns on paths between controls |
Orange | 2.6km | 3 |
Harder still, the Orange course introduces:
|
Long Orange | 3.7km | 3 |
Slightly harder than the normal orange course, but quite a bit further! This course is split into 2 parts with part 1 printed on one side, when you get to the last control you turn over to part 2 |
Map Memory | 3.6km | 4 |
Experienced orienteers or someone up for a challenge! Rather than carrying a map each control has a map extract that shows the location of the next control. You have to figure out the route and then run to the next control. If you lose your way you have no option but to retrace your steps back to the last control and try again. |
Sprintervals | 5 x 1km | 3 |
Experienced orienteers looking for a hard workout and practicing navigation at speed. 5 1km loops on a detailed map with a rest between loops |
Costs
Adults £4
Children £2
Any additional courses will cost an additional £1
If you would like to go around in a group you would just pay for one entry.
Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
