Comments
23 people ran this year’s race including a large contingent from Totley. There were new Men’s and Women’s records on the short course and a new junior record on the Long – Aidan Smith taking 30 seconds off last year’s time. Several people struggled with the route with 2 people missing Wincobank Hill and relocating at Asda in Ecclesfield setting what is and will remain the longest time ever for the course – at least they got back just before the barbeque had finished and while we still had some mulled wine waiting for them. Alan Yates came along as race monitor to ensure that standards were being met and was particularly pleased with Ron’s sausages and burgers on the barbeque.

Sponsored by Ron Hayman, Master Butcher of Crookes and supplier of sausages to the Great Urban Fell Race for many years.

The Race
There will be a short version for those that aren’t up to the full distance and also an alternate earlier start for those that want to ensure they are back in time for the BBQ.

Long Course incorporates 3 checkpoints – 1. the infamous Crookes lamp post, 2. Shirecliffe viewpoint as featured in the BBC’s ‘Threads’ nuclear fallout film and 3. Wincobank Roman Hill Fort. Mostly on roads but with some off-road sections.

Short Course will not visit Wincobank.

Starts: 7.00pm for the main race, 6.45pm available for those who want a little more time on either course

Records: Men – Rob Little 66.00 mins (2011)

Rules/Route: Long Course – visit controls 1,2 and 3. Short course – visit controls 1 and 2. Rutland Road and Herries Road must not be used as indicated on the map. You must use crossing point A and either B1 or B2 during the race – you can’t use the same crossing point twice.

Maps – 50p – bring a map case. Don’t forget to bring a Head Light!

The BBQ
