Details

Lovely day at Forge Dam hope you enjoyed the Score courses. Thank you to Will Preston (assisted by dad Andy) for planning. Will is another of our juniors (first year M16) who has stepped up to plan one of our schools events this year. In a few week he will be joining another 20 orienteers from his year group at the national training camp on Deeside in Scotland. Thank you also to all our other helpers.

Results are available on the link above.

So that is it for another year. A massive thank you to everyone who has come along and run, an even bigger thank you to anyone who has volunteered. Next years events are already scheduled, some old favourites with a couple of new areas added. Some higlights this year - getting back to the number of entries we had pre-covid, lots more parents giving it a go and lots of the events planned by our juniors.

The picture below is Immy Pieters, probably as a Y5 or 6,  at one of the schools league. She is now out competing at her 3rd Junior World Championships in Czechia along with Euan and Freya, maybe this could be you in a few years? JWOC races are Monday - Saturday, if you want to follow along check out the event website https://jwoc2024.cz/en/home/.

Venue

Forge Dam forms one of several ponds created along the Porter Valley to feed metal-working mills.  The Porter Valley is wooded along all of its length west from Hunters Bar (Bingham Park) to Ringinglow.  The Forge Dam map includes Forge Dam Park and surrounding woodland, which was planted for the 1951 Festival of Britain.

The Forge Dam map includes Whiteley Woods, a larger area of woods which is also on some versions of the Bingham Park map.  This part also includes an area of overgrown allotments, some of which are now mature woodland.  There is some contour detail and the ruined walls, hedges and bulding bases add interest.
