Enjoy the challenge of night orienteering in the varied terrain of Loxley Common. Newcomers welcome. The event is part of the YHOA night league.
Entries
Entries via Fabian4. Please enter by Sunday 18th February to guarantee your choice of course. Entries will remain open until Friday 23rd February while maps last. There is no entry on the day.
Assembly
Enquiries and download in the rear room of the Wadsley Jack pub, 66 Rural Lane, S6 4BJ. What3words: visual.regime.insect. Toilets are available. The bar will be open and there is a full food menu on offer 5-8pm.
Please use the door directly into the rear room (see picture below) at the back of the car park, and wipe your feet or remove really muddy shoes.
Parking
Please only use the pub car park if you are intending to stay for food or a drink after the event. Otherwise there is plenty of parking on surrounding residential streets or at the Loxley Common Carpark (S6 4BZ), which is near the Start.
Timings
Starts 6.30pm-7.30pm.
Courses Close - 9pm. You must report to the finish/download by 9pm even if you haven't finished your course.
There is a maximum time limit of 90 minutes in order to score points in the YHOA Night League. Please enter a course that you can complete in this time.
Costs
Until 18th February Adults - £10 (£8 members). £4 adults on very short, Family (when running separate courses) £24 (£20 members). Volunteers to help (from any club) receive a 50% discount using the discount code SYOHELPER.
After 18th February Adults - £11 (£9 members). £4 adults on very short, Family (when running separate courses) £26 (£22 members). If available to help please email the organiser.
Juniors / Students - £4
Pairs welcome - just pay for 1 entry.
Start / Finish
The start is approx 500m from Assembly. The Finish is very near the Wadsley Jack pub (download).
Terrain
Loxley Common comprises of large areas of open common land interspersed with areas of woodland. There is a complex network of paths, interesting vegetation detail and some areas of intricate contour detail created by old mine/quarry workings. The south eastern rocky slopes are not being used at night for safety reasons.

The size of the control circles has been reduced to 35m diameter (7mm) for clarity.

Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.

Venue
Loxley Common comprises of large areas of open common land, runnable underfoot with a complex network of paths on grass, heather and bracken common. To the south there is an area of woodland, with a small section very bouldery. There is some intricate contour detail created by old mine/quarry workings..
The area was used for the Senior Home International relays in 2006 with a resurvey by Oli Johnson; minor updates have been undertaken in 2010 and 2012.
