Organiser's comments
What a fantastic weekend of orienteering we have enjoyed. The weather was glorious (especially as on Thursday the Met Office Mountain Weather forecast was predicting snow today) and we were able to enjoy some beautiful scenery as a backdrop to our events. Thank you all for coming along and making the volunteers time so worthwhile. It was great that nearly 400 folk were able to participate today and I hope that you all found Charlie’s courses suitably challenging as I thought they made great use of the most technical parts of the area. Ian C has spent much time producing the map so special thanks to him.
Many thanks to all the volunteers today some of whom put in very long shifts and I am very grateful to each and every one of them without whom the event would not have been possible. I needed much extra advice from controller Mark as well as practical help from Lucy and Susan.
Pete G has worked tirelessly to deal with the entries and results following some sort of computer gremlin and we think the results are now as they should be.
Thank you to the National Trust for allowing us to use the Discovery Centre and to the Eastern Moors Partnership for the use of the special place that these moorlands are. We should all be thankful for the opportunity to run over the moors and to those organisations that care for them.
There is some lost property: thumb compass, black sock, black glove, Charnock buff, blue women's t'shirt.
Controller's Comments
What an enjoyable day! The weather was superb and the use of the Discovery Centre by the NT an enjoyable and safe environment. Charlie's courses were designed to take on the worst of the weather and were slightly scaled down. Although the area plays to the physically fit (like the most of the north) and therefore times further down the field were of the right length. I thought Charlie's long legs across the area for the blue and brown were a real dilemma. Plus how Charlie used Surprise View for the majority of the courses. This was Bronwen's first time as organiser and she did excellently. Her life would have been much easier if everyone was parked in a safe environment like a field and the start and finish were adjacent. This stretched her and the helpers but it worked. Well done for everyone who helped.

Terrain
The event utilises the western part of Burbage which includes the most technical terrain. Hathersage Moor is predominately open moorland with heather and moor grass and small pockets of woodland. Areas of complex rock detail and detailed contour features provide a variety of orienteering challenges. There are many transient animal tracks which can be helpful. The Eastern part of Burbage, known for its deep heather, is not being used. There is some dead bracken but courses are planned to avoid the worst parts.

There will be a clothing dump just before the start after you cross the final road.
The controls will be SIAC enabled but please manually punch the start and finish.
Finish
The finish is 200m north of the final road crossing. You will pass the clothing dump on your return to assembly.

We hope to do the junior prize-giving at 2pm.
You will also be able to collect coasters for the YHOA SuperLeague and YHOA Urban League at the event. It would help if someone from each club could collect and distribute any leftovers after the event
