People seemed to enjoy Yana’s courses on a lovely sunny evening.  It is interesting to see so many different route plans; the top few in each category took very different routes.  Quite a few braved the stepping stones, despite the warning that they would not get across with dry feet.

Apologies about the map legibility, we didn’t get the map resolution high enough and the contours were extremely faint.

Parking & Assembly

Registration, start and finish will be in the Heart of Hathersage centre on Main Road (nearly opposite the Spar shop/petrol station - S32 1AA). What3words: boast.clearcut.daunting

You may park in the car park of the Outside outdoor shop on Main Rd - S32 1BB.  It is not available to us until 17:45 and will be locked at 20:30. If wishing to start early or if Outside car park is full, please park in the Hathersage Public Car Park (opposite the swimming pool) on Oddfellows Rd S32 1DU.  Charge £2.50 if before 18:00, £1 after 18:00.  There may also be on-road parking by the swimming pool for early arrivals.

Please don't park in 'The Croft' or on residential roads as this will upset local residents and jeopardise future events in the village.

There is a toilet available at the assembly point.

Course details

You will have 60, 90 or 120 minutes to find as many of the controls as you can in the time allowed. The course uses the MapRun mobile phone/Garmin Watch app. There are no control flags out but the app will beep to notify you when you reach the correct point. There is more info on how to use maprun available here.

Score 20 points per control. Lose 10 points per minute late finishing.

The full score map crosses roads so is only suitable for those aged 16 years and above unless accompanied by an adult.  Experienced juniors aged between 12 and 15 can compete on their own on the Under 16s course but please note this course does cross minor roads. Those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Read our photography policy.

Venue

The village of Hathersage and some surrounding countryside. It was mapped in 2010 and had not been used for an orienteeriing event before March 2011. The terrain is a mixture of pavement, road, track, grassy slopes, parkland, and (muddy) paths. Your footwear will be challenged, but there are no brambles or bracken.
