Details
Hope you all enjoyed the courses tonight. As usual thanks to our volunteers: Pete Guillaume for planning, the Howsam family for organising and Steve Dempsey for various map updates. Results and splits are available on the link above.
That's the good news, now for the bad. Unfortunately though after the event we we contacted by a member of the public who reported seeing a 'Middle aged man who should know better' climbing over a wall through a private field. We totally rely on good relations with all our landowners and the general public. Please make sure that you do nothing to endanger this in the future. If you find yourself contemplating climbing over a wall over a wall or fence, think again, check that what you are doing is allowed and that you haven't missunderstood either map symbols or where you are. If you have any doubt do not cross and go around, this isn't the World Champs.

Terrain, Safety & Clothing/Footwear
The event is spread across several areas depending on which course you run. The POW Camp woodland, the Lodgemoor hospital estate, Lodgemoor and the Westminster estate. Some of the connecting paths are narrow, please keep left and give way to pedestrians and dog walkers.
The Middle and Long courses visit the Westminster estate (the area where there are blocks of flats). See map extract above. Please keep to the paths and roads. We have been asked not to cut across grass areas in front of windows as previous events have caused distress to elderly residents. These courses also cross busy roads and it is suggested that competitors wear light coloured tops. Please take care crossing all roads.
The POW Camp has been thinned. There are some new large tracks, brashings and many of the small paths are now overgrown. Courses avoid the worst areas. Due to underlying concrete, patches of the woods may be fairly slippy/muddy.
The Yellow uses large and small paths in woodland, and a small area of rough open parkland. Some of the smallest paths have undergrowth trailing at low level, but courses avoid the worst of these.
Controls of all courses visit the woodland; therefore it is advised that all competitors wear shoes with some grip. Fine to wear shorts, although children on the Yellow may prefer to have full leg cover. Short wearers may prefer to wear long socks as there are a few nettles about. For Medium and Long competitors, the woodland makes up ~10% of your course distance - the remainder is largely on pavements or cut grass - so you definitely don't want dobs!
Costs
£6 adults, £5 British Orienteering / SYO members

Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
Photography
SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Read our photography policy.
Privacy
When entering our events your personal details (name, gender, age class & club) will appear in the results section of this website. Read our privacy policy to see how we look after your personal data.
Venue
The Lodge Moor map is mostly urban, but includes the woodland west of The Sportsman, which was used in WW2 as a Prisoner of War Camp and still has many hut bases and other features from that time.
