Details
Well you would think mid May would be a beautiful day like the picture below but instead we got torrential rain! Well done to everyone who went out today I hope you have all managed to dry out. Kudos to those doing 2 or more courses!
Massive thank you to James Bryant (M14) and family for planning todays courses, it is brilliant to see the juniors getting involved in planning and organising. I thought he did a great job and the courses all looked pretty interesting. The rain didn't help on the steep slopes, especially on the longer courses - lots of muddy people at the finish.
Apologies to those that ended up with plain rather than waterproof paper maps, there were 2 at the back of each course from the test print which I stuck in incase we ran out, not expecting to as we had quite a few spares but some of them were used - well done for those that got round with them as there didn't seem to be much map left at the end!
A huge thank you as well to all our helpers (Ian, Monika, Paul, Conrad, Bill, Ciara, Freya, Ruth, Alexa, the Guys, Hannah, Mark C, Dave H, Bronwen, Karl, Alex F, the Reynolds's, the Bryants & Janita) most of whom ended up very soggy by the end, a stirling effort by everyone. Thank you also to Whirlow Hall for the use of the room and toilets, I hope you all had lots of tea and cakes!
Results and split times are available on the links above. Lots of sorting out around clubs, schools and age classes, it seems like we had problems getting some of the online entry data into the system.
Good luck to all our SYO juniors running in the inter-club junior competition tomorrow up near Leeds. We have an evening event on Wednesday at Wheata Woods, entries close on Monday for that. The next Saturday Series event is 12 June at Graves Park.
Information
We are delighted to be holding our first Saturday Series event of 2021 at Whirlowbrook Hall. These events are aimed at introducing adult and junior newcomers to orienteering. There is also a green and blue course which will provide a good technical challenge to experienced orienteers. Non-members are welcome.
Limb Valley and Whirlow Brook Hall provide a stunning location for orienteering. The terrain is highly varied, ranging from the steep wooded valley and plantation to the formal gardens around the hall and intricate quarry area.
Travel and parking
Postcode: S11 9QD. What3Words: king.hardly.drives (main entrance). There are two car parks within the grounds please drive slowly within the park, there is also parking available on the crescent outside the park gates. If these fill up then there is good parking on Whirlowdale Road (about 100m back from the crescent towards the city centre on the right along Ecclesall Road South).
NB Please do not park on the private road (Whinfell Court) that has a junction onto the crescent outside the park gates.
Buses seem to be pretty regular with a variety of routes (20 minutes from the city centre with a 5 minute walk through the park to the hall) Plan your journey
Schools Event
Unfortunately the SFSS and National PE Association have decided that no inter-school competitions can currently take place. As a result pupils will run individually in their school years. Results will be published but no schools' names will be listed. As soon as the SFSS allow competitions to restart we will reinstate the schools' league.

- Minimise contact with people from outside your household before, during and after your run. Practice social distancing at all times, including before and after your run as well as when you are out on your course. Take particular care to keep the required distance from other people in the vicinity of the Start, at download and when passing other competitors or members of the public on narrow paths, going through gates, etc.
- Do not congregate in groups greater than 6 at the event.
- Sanitise your hands before and after your run.
- Do not touch the controls. If using a SIAC dibber hover your hand above the SI unit. If dibbing, just place the dibber in the hole, without touching the box.
- Please be super courteous to any members of the public that you come across before, during or after the event.
