11 Sep - Updated with schools results
So when we saw the forecast we thought that numbers might be down at Endcliffe but you are obviously all very hardy! It was a record turnout with 549 runs, with all those trying it for the first time it did mean there was a bit of queing but I hope this didn't spoil the experience. Thanks to all our volunteers for making the event possible, especially Ryan Elliot who was planning for the first time.
It was great to see lots of runners on the harder courses as well. I know that we needed to re-cycle maps for many of the courses so thank you for those that gaves theirs back and apologies to those that had to use a wet, recycled map... For those on the Light Green, Green and Blue that either had controls missing near the wedding we have re-instated you. Unfortunately Halifax Hall weren't aware of our event so we weren't aware of the clash... Because the event results won't be included in British Orienteering rankings etc. we think that it is better to still include the legs.
Preliminary results and splits are available on the link above, along with the schools results (on the 'other' link or here). We have quite a few year 7 to allocate to the right school (Currently Nether Green are sitting in 5th place in the Secondary competition) rather than wade through almost 600 entry forms it would be great if you could let us know by email which schools they have mooved to. If you spot any other errors please
Hopefully see you all at the next event if not before.

Orienteering Courses Available

See below for details on the courses on offer. Distances are provisional:
Course | School Years | Distance | Technical Level | Who is it for? |
White |
Y4,5 |
1 km | 1 | The easiest course and a great place for children to start. The course is entirely on paths and each time you have to make a decision - which path to take, there will be a control point. Year 3 pupils can compete with Y4s. |
Yellow | Y6,7 | 1.7km | 2 | The next step up and a good place for teenagers etc. to start. The course will use paths but also other line features - Fences, streams etc. It will also no longer have a control everytime you need to decide where you are going. For example you may need to make a couple of turns on paths between controls |
Orange | Y8,9 | 2.4km | 3 |
Harder still, the Orange course introduces:
|
Light Green | Y10+ | 3.5km | 4 |
Ideal for improvers. The course is further and the navigation difficulty increases and you start to use simple contours and point features. |
Green | Adult | 4.2km | 5 |
Navigationally as hard as the area allows with plenty of route choice. |
Blue |
Adult | 5.5km | 5 | As per the green but further in distance. |
