Schools league results are on the 'Other' link above and the team and year group results are below.  Tthe league standings have also been updated and can be seen here

The Prize-giving for the schools league will take place on 7th July at 2pm at the Cliffhanger Festival.

Thank you to all our helpers especially Lester Hartmann for planning all the courses. That brings this years schools league to a close.  It has been great to see so many people out orienteering during the course of the year including all the parents who have been giving it a go.  We like to think that one of the nice things about orienteering is that anyone can do it and I think you are all proving it.

Information

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Start Times 2pm - 4pm.  The 'Pretty Muddy' race is at Graves Park on Saturday so we have had to move the start times back to allow for that event to finish.  On the plus side we can use their parking for no charge. It is in  the fields next to the pavillion off Hemsworth Road (nearest postcode S8 8QE). Please follow signs for the Pretty Muddy race. There will be no access to the parking by the animal farm. Hopefully you will all be able to handle the change of time, it isn't ideal but the best we can do given we only found out about the Pretty Muddy event last Thursday and delaying the starts seemed better than cancelling!

This is a combined Sheffield Schools and Saturday Afternoon series aimed to introduce new people to the sport but also provide local orienteering to experienced orienteers. Alongside the normal white to long orange courses, there will be harder and longer courses which take in the intricate contoured area in Cobnar Woods.

Registration for the events will open at 13:45pm and you can start any time from 2pm – 4pm. All courses close at 4:30pm at which time we will start to collect controls so please make sure you start early enough to complete your course in time.

We will be based by the Cafe. The nearest car park is at the Rare Breeds Centre off Hemsworth Road this is Pay & Display and will almost certainly be packed due to the pretty mudder event.  The Pretty Mudder event organisers have said that we can use their parking fields which are next to the pavillion off Hemsworth road.  If this doesn't work out there is plenty of parking on the roads around the park but please park considerately.  This link shows where Registration is  map

Safety

There will be lots of tapes, obstacles and course markers around from the Pretty Muddy - please tell juniors to ignore them. The park is also likely to be busier than normal. During our event the race organisers will be removing the obstacles but we have been assured that they are used to working in busy parks and there will only be a slow moving 4x4 vehicle plus trailer. The parking area will be marked out of bounds on the map but the junior courses do not go anywhere near this area. Please feel free to shadow younger juniors if you are at all concerned.

Schools Event

Running alongside the public event is the final event in the Sheffield School Orienteering League for both Primary and Secondary pupils.  Entry to the schools event is free if your school is a member of the Sheffield Federation of School Sports (SFSS).  Information about the SFSS Orienteering League is here.  It is not necessary for a teacher to be present from the school.

Entries

All courses are entry on the day.  You just have to turn up, pick a course and fill in an entry form.  There will be people on hand to help you if you have any questions.

If you ran one of the previous schools events in the series then you should have completed an entry form an been given a number.  With the number we are able to add you into the results system much quicker.  You can download an entry form with your details on from the registration page using the registration number and email address.

For those who would like to do a second run you will need to complete another entry slip with the same details as before.  You are welcome to fill this out in advance and bring it with you when you download (with the £1 entry fee for the second course) and we can give you a map to save queuing again.

Venue

Graves park is Sheffield’s largest park and arguably provides the widest variety of orienteering terrain.  As well as a good path network and open spaces, there are wooded valleys, steepening at the west, with old mineral workings providing a small area of interesting contour detail.

Non-orienteering attractions include a café and a rare-breeds animal farm.
