Information

This is a score event (find as many controls as you can in the time allowed) around the picturesque village of Hathersage and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Registration & Travel

From 5pm in Hathersage Hall Business Centre, off Main Road just below School Lane in Hathersage (S32 1BB). Only pedestrian access, no parking there please. It is a 300m walk from the car park on Oddfellows Rd, S32 1DU, opposite the swimming pool. Buses from Sheffield stop one minute’s walk from registration and the train station is around 800 metres away.

Starts

Starts from 5-6pm for under 16s. Adult starts from 5.30-7pm.

Courses

Course A - For Juniors aged 11 and under. 30 minute score. 10 controls. Minimum distance to get all controls is 2k.

Course B - For Juniors aged 11 to 15. 30 minute score. 15 controls. Minimum distance for all controls is over 4K.

Course C - Age 16 and over. 45 minutes score. 30 controls. Minimum distance for all controls is over 8k.

Ten points awarded for each control recorded. Ten point penalty for each minute, or part minute you are over time. For instance on Course B a time of 31 minutes 10 seconds will incur 20 penalty points. It is therefore important not to be late and to use a watch or stopwatch or phone with stopwatch!

Cost

Cost £2 children under 16, £3 juniors over 16 / full time students, £5 adults. Groups and pairs pay for 1 entry.

 SI electronic punching will be used.

Terrain and Safety

Courses A and B use parkland, footpaths, tracks, and minor roads,  with no crossing of busy roads. Any traffic will be infrequent and slow moving. All juniors should be made aware of this. This is in line with British Orienteering guidelines.

Course C uses a wide area of Hathersage including rural footpaths, parkland, residential streets and the crossing of the sometimes busy Main Road and Station Road. Care must be taken crossing all roads, but especially the two main roads in the village.

Prizegiving for Juniors within the Hathersage Parish

This will take place at 6.45pm as follows.

Prizes for local (Hathersage Parish) males and females in each of these categories;

COURSE A  first pair aged 8 or under.

COURSE A  first aged 9 to 11, either individual or pair.

COURSE B  first individual aged 11 to 15.

Anyone is very welcome to take part in pairs or small groups or with adults in any of the courses. However, to recognise individual achievement, only the above categories will receive prizes.

Hathersage Gala

This event has developed from the Junior Gala Orienteering event held for more than 15 years, and is part of the annual Hathersage Gala. This includes a Junior Fell Race on Saturday 2.30pm  1st July, a Senior Fell race on Monday 3rd at 7.30pm, and a Gala procession on Saturday afternoon 8th. The village will be decorated with many scarecrows, with this year's theme “animal antics”, worth a closer look after your run. More details at www.facebook.com/Hathersagegala
