Details
A good turnout given it is a night event in February! Good to see some people from other clubs getting a bit of last minute training in before the Northern and British Night Champs. Thanks to Tony and Claudia for planning and running the event, lots of compliments on the courses.
There was a bag of lost property left for someone to collect but it wasn't collected... If anyone knows anything about it let us know!

Information
A first night event or an opportunity to train for British Night Championships later in the month? This event is suitable for experienced orienteers. The short course is suitable for those who can complete a light green in the day time. Juniors welcome but should be shadowed unless experienced.
Parking
Parking will be in the car park next to the reservoir or on the Redmires Road (here).
Terrain
All courses are on the area of moorland and runnable forest to the north of the private road. A massive amount of recent felling has meant we can’t sensibly use the southern section of the area, but for a night event this gives an opportunity for a 4.6k course to use the full extent of the northern section and avoid any road running. The long course goes through an area that was felled a number of years ago and the piles of root stocks are marked as linear thicket. The area is contained by walls and fences with the minor road to the East.
The map was recently updated by Peter Govett (January 2017)

Venue
Redmires Woods are the woodlands west of the three Redmires reservoirs. Most of the map is mature coniferous woodland with minimal undergrowth providing superb running, but at the northern edge it opens out to moorland sheep pasture. There are few paths. The area is dotted with quarry /mining workings, some of which provide excellent technical orienteering.
