Details
SPOOK (Sheffield Postgraduate Occasional/Old Orienteering Klub) put on relays every year as part of the frivolities of SPOOK weekend. We offer an informal, esoteric but most of all tremendously entertaining 2-man, 6-leg relay (each person runs 3 legs) on the Saturday. This is open to SYO members and anyone else who happens to find out about it! Courses are aimed at being short (~10min winning time per leg, so ~60min in total) and will be planned to TD4/5 as the area allows. It is suitable for anybody who is confident on light green.
This year the SPOOK relays will be on Saturday 19th November on Loxley Common (Terrain description: Open bits, wooded bits, contour-y bits, rocky bits, dogs). The start is at 11:30, so please arrive by 11:15 at the latest. SYO coaching will take place afterwards from 1-2.30pm.
Parking is in public spaces at the west of the area (Long Lane), or east of the area (Rural Lane). Parking is limited so if possible park a bit further afield (Wisewood etc.) and walk up. Please park sensibly and take locals and dog-walkers into account. Better still you could run out, or take the bus (52a heads up towards Wisewood). Make your own way from car parking to 'Assembly', which will be in the middle of the common, roughly here.
There will be minimal provisions - no toilets etc. We will have a tent but that will be primarily for keeping the very low-tech download and results service dry. The event is BOF registered for insurance purposes.

Safety & risk

Photography
SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Read our photography policy.

Venue
Loxley Common comprises of large areas of open common land, runnable underfoot with a complex network of paths on grass, heather and bracken common. To the south there is an area of woodland, with a small section very bouldery. There is some intricate contour detail created by old mine/quarry workings..
The area was used for the Senior Home International relays in 2006 with a resurvey by Oli Johnson; minor updates have been undertaken in 2010 and 2012.
