Details
Well anyone running around in the heat today deserved a medal! I hope you all enjoyed the different format of the event today. Score orienteering creates new challenges trying to work out which controls to do. Results are on the link above where you can also see the order people took the controls.
Thank you to all our hot and hard working helpers today. Especially to Dave Peel for planning the courses.
Congratulations to everyone who picked up medals and certificates at the schools prize-giving. We have the new flyers for next year and will update the website shortly with the dates etc.
Don't forget there is still plenty of orienteering - Cliffhanger is coming up and the Wednesday evening training seems to be very popular.
Information
A Saturday Afternoon Series event aimed at introducing newcomers of all ages to orienteering whilst also offering good value local orienteering to more experienced orienteers. This will also be the prize-giving for the Sheffield Schools League.
Prize Giving
There will be medals for the 1st 3 in each age class and a certificate for everyone who has completed at least 5 events. Children who have attended all 9 events will receive a prize. The prize giving will be held at 3pm so if you are planning to attend please start early to make sure you are back in time.
Registration and starts
Registration will open at 1pm next to the cafe at Forge Dam map. You can start any time from 1pm – 2.30pm but the courses close at 3:30pm.
Courses
As this event is not part of the school's league we are offering something a little different.....
This event will be a score event where the aim is to find as many controls as you can within a set amount of time. You score points for each control you find but if you are late back then points are deducted. It doesn't matter if you can't find a control - just go onto the next one. Under 16s will have 30 minutes. There are mix of very easy controls and some slightly more difficult so it will be suitable for younger juniors. Over 16s will have 45 minutes and will need to cross a road.
Costs
Adults £4, (Members £3)
Children £2
If you would like to go around in a group you would just pay for one entry, plus £1 for each extra map.
Travel and parking
There is very little parking at Forge Dam itself so parking will be on nearby residential roads. Please park considerately. You should find plenty of space on Whitely Lane, Brookhouse Hill and Brooklands Cresent. See the link to the map above
Please don't try and drive down Ivy Cottage Lane to park by the stream, given the numbers of people running in these event recently it is very unlikely there will be a space. Turning round will be hard and most importantly there will be lots of people running around.
The nearest bus stop is on Brookhouse Hill, 5 minutes walk from Registration. Plan your journey
Facilities
Toilets and café next to registration. Plus playground and a looong slide...
Entries
All courses are entry on the day. You just have to turn up, pick a course and fill in an entry form. There will be people on hand to help you if you have any questions.
If you ran one of the previous schools events in the series then you should have completed an entry form an been given a number. With the number we are able to add you into the results system much quicker. You can download an entry form with your details on from the registration page using the registration number and email address.
If this will be the first event you have attended this year then please go the the registration page and enter your details. If you don't get chance to do this before the event then you can still register at the event. REGISTRATION PAGE

Venue
Forge Dam forms one of several ponds created along the Porter Valley to feed metal-working mills. The Porter Valley is wooded along all of its length west from Hunters Bar (Bingham Park) to Ringinglow. The Forge Dam map includes Forge Dam Park and surrounding woodland, which was planted for the 1951 Festival of Britain.
The Forge Dam map includes Whiteley Woods, a larger area of woods which is also on some versions of the Bingham Park map. This part also includes an area of overgrown allotments, some of which are now mature woodland. There is some contour detail and the ruined walls, hedges and bulding bases add interest.
