Thanks for coming to run on a warm spring evening with the added interest of the meal and the coaching talk afterwards.

Planning the courses made my local runs and dog walks more interesting for the last month.

There are some maps left if anyone wants to have an interesting training run.

Score Event, Social and British Champs preparation

60 or 40 minutes score event, starts between 18:00 and 18:30, details below.

Social

Please choose from scampi and chips, veg curry and rice, meat chilli and rice or meat (or veg) lasagne, garlic bread & salad. Meals are £7.95 per person.

Pre-BLDC Briefing

After the meal (between 20:00 and 20:30 depending on meal service) there will be a technical briefing session for the British Long Distance Champs in the Forest of Dean the following weekend led by Nick Lightfoot. Please bring your JK maps as there will also be a chance for post race analysis with Nick. A room has been reserved for this.

Event details

Car Park/Registration/Start Point: Three Merry Lads car park, inside if raining.

Start times: 6.00pm – 6.30pm

Juniors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult as the course crosses several busy roads.

Course/Map: Urban colour map, scale 1:10,000 prepared using open orienteering map, http://oomap.co.uk/, controls pre-marked on the map. Paper map, map bag provided.

The controls are in a mix of locations from the roads of Fulwood, local footpaths and parks and for those wanting a more physical run, some along the Rivelin valley.

Event entry fee: Seniors £4 (£3 SYO and British Orienteering members). Juniors and Students £2

Scoring details

You opt before you start to do a 40 or 60 minutes score.  Maps provided at minus one so you can plan your route.

Control numbers beginning with a 1 (one) i.e. 11 are worth 10 points

Controls numbers beginning with a 2 (two) i.e. 21 are worth 20 points

Controls numbers beginning with a 3 (three) i.e. 31 are worth 30 points

Penalty: Minus 5 points for each whole or part of a minute late

Controls are post boxes, fixed points such as signs and plastic milk bottle controls. You may have to answer a question about information on a sign, such as, Clue: Blue sign - “What is the third word?” The numbers on the post boxes are on the printed information about collection times. From the plastic milk bottles you need to record the code, for example: XY

You will be provided with a clue sheet AND NEED TO BRING A PEN TO WRITE DOWN THE ANSWERS.

When you start your start time will marked on your clue sheet.

When you finish your finish time will be marked onto your clue sheet. Please calculate your score deducting any penalties. Answer sheets will be provided for you to mark your own sheets.

When completed please hand them to Peter or Judith Guillaume.

Safety & risk

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
