Planner's comments:
See you all at the next event. Mark
Registration: From 17:30 in Car Park opposite swimming pool on Oddfellows Road, S32 1DD
Parking: The car park charges in the evening (£1.20 for 1 hour, 1.90 for 2 hrs, £3 for 3 hrs according to Parkopedia), but there are spaces on Oddfellows Road and by the station. There may be road works on Main Road, so it will be best to approach along Crossland Road (1st turn left in village when approaching from Sheffield)
Terrain: The courses will be mainly urban, but do cross fields of the Brookfield Manor estate and rural footpaths. You might prefer leg cover for controls in Brookfield Manor.
Start Times: 17:40 - 18:45. From registration it’s about 500m to start and 250m back from finish
Courses Close: 19:45 (sunset is at 19:40 and we need to get controls in)
Courses: Short 2.0km,
Medium 3.7km
Long 5.3km
All courses are suitable for novices, but the longer two courses cross busy roads so aren't suitable for under 16s.
Cost: Short Adults £4, Juniors and Students £2
Electronic punching: Sportident timing will be used; SI-card hire £1
Special notes: Be mindful of others' property, so don't cut corners or jump fences where it could cause offence. Be aware of uncrossable points over-printed in thick red line.
Planner: Mark Chapman
Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
Photography
SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Read our photography policy.
Privacy
When entering our events your personal details (name, gender, age class & club) will appear in the results section of this website. Read our privacy policy to see how we look after your personal data.
Venue
The village of Hathersage and some surrounding countryside. It was mapped in 2010 and had not been used for an orienteeriing event before March 2011. The terrain is a mixture of pavement, road, track, grassy slopes, parkland, and (muddy) paths. Your footwear will be challenged, but there are no brambles or bracken.
