I hope everyone enjoyed the orienteering in Endcliffe Park today. We had a fantastic turnout which stretched our resources a little! I hope no one had to wait for too long to enter and download etc. Future events should be mush quicker now that we have most of your details in our system.
As you may know we had some problems with the results system later on in the event. We have been working on the results and are starting to get near the final version! The current results are available via the link above. Please
I have to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers on the day for their hard work, without which the event could not have taken place.
We look forward to seeing you at the next Saturday event - 18th October at Weston Park. We also have an event next weekend over in Wombwell Woods near Barnsley, a lovely place for a run at this time of year.

Schools Event
Running alongside the public event is the first event in the Sheffield Federation of School Sports (SFSS) Orienteering League for both Primary and Secondary pupils. Orienteering Courses Available
If you complete a course and there is still time you are welcome to try another.
See below for details on the courses on offer. Distances are provisional
Course | School Years | Distance | Technical Level | Who is it for? |
White |
Y4,5 |
1.0km | 1 | The easiest course and a great place for children to start. The course is entirely on paths and each time you have to make a decision - which path to take, there will be a control point. Year 3 pupils can compete with Y4s. |
Yellow | Y6,7 | 1.6km | 2 | The next step up and a good place for teenagers etc. to start. The course will use paths but also other line features - Fences, streams etc. It will also no longer have a control everytime you need to decide where you are going. For example you may need to make a couple of turns on paths between controls |
Orange | Y8,9 | 2.2km | 3 |
Harder still, the Orange course introduces:
|
Long Orange | Y10+ | 3.2km | 3 |
Similar difficulty to an orange course, but quite a bit further! This course is split into 2 parts with part 1 printed on one side, when you get to the last control you turn over to part 2 |
Light Green | 3.2km | 4 |
Ideal for improvers The navigation difficulty increases and you start to use simple contours and point features. |
|
Map Memory | 3.2km | 4 |
Experienced orienteers or someone up for a challenge! Rather than carrying a map each control has a map extract that shows the location of the next control. You have to figure out the route and then run to the next control. If you lose your way you have no option but to retrace your steps back to the last control and try again. |
|
Sprintervals | 5 x 1km | 3 |
Experienced orienteers looking for a hard workout and practicing navigation at speed. 5 1km loops on a detailed map with a rest between loops |
Costs
