A great turnout again - think we'll need more people to input entries next time! Provisional results are available using the links above, the schools results will be available in the next few days. If you spot any errors please let us know - you can use the comments below.
Thanks to everyone who helped again. The next Saturday event is at Forge Dam on 22 Feb. But before that we have coaching on 1st and 8th Feb and an event on Sunday 9th at Wharncliffe (which will have white, yellow, orange courses). Details can be found on the events page of our website.
Information
The next event in the Saturday Afternoon Series and includes an event in the SFSS primary and secondary schools orienteering league.
Registration will open at 1pm in the classroom at the Botanical gardens. This is situated down towards the bottom entrance to the gardens off Thompson Road. You can start any time from 1pm – 2:45pm but the courses close at 3:15pm.
Schools Event
Running alongside the public event is an event in the SFSS Orienteering League for both Primary and Secondary pupils. Entry to the schools event is free if your school has entered and you are in Y4 or above. Information about the SFSS Orienteering League is here
Costs
Adults £4, SYO members £3
Children £2 (Free for the first run if you are in Y4 or above and your schools is in the SFSS)
Any additional courses will cost an additional £1
If you would like to go around in a group you would just pay for one entry, plus £1 for each extra map.
Travel and parking
Botanical Gardens is best reached from the city centre by the buses that service Ecclesall Road. Parking is off Ecclesall Road in metered bays. Make sure you don’t park in a “Permit holders only” bay or you will get a parking fine!
Facilities
Toilets near the classroom and a café near the Broomhill entrance.
Courses
All courses stay within the Botanical Gardens.
White 0.9km very simple navigation
Yellow 1.2km simple navigation
Orange 2.1km harder navigation
For more experienced orienteers there will be a park sprint and a map memory course
Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
Photography
SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance.
