Updates
17:50 Sunday Provisional Results, splitsbrowser (splits analysis) and Winsplits (other) now up

18:20 Very Provisional Ranking points up, but with some missing membership numbers, so they will change (slightly?)

19:50 Results updated, final unless any issues raised.  Ranking points updated with missing membership numbers

22:40 Routetgadget loaded.  I've created a merged map of both Limb Valley and Burbage.  Rather confusingly it opens up on the Burbage side of the map, sorry.  Just keep dragging it left to get to the start in Limb Valley.

11:00 Sat 28th Organiser's comments added.

For Brown course competitors:  I've had to replot the controls on the Burbage map, so they might not be quite right.  I suspect that GPS traces may not work very well across the map join.  PG

Organiser's Comments

A big thank you to all those who helped on the day. Everyone was very adaptable and ready to muck in wherever they were needed. Without your support SYO could not put on such events so your support is greatly appreciated. I am not sure how many miles Lucy and Colin ran whilst putting out, checking and collecting controls. You both performed a great job and did very well to keep smiling through a very long day.

A couple of items of lost property were left behind: a compass and a pair of Saucony trail shoes. If anyone has lost these then please contact Liz Cuckson on 0114 2364820.

Once again, my sincere thanks to everyone who helped to put on such a very enjoyable event.

Planner's Comments

Thank you all for coming to Limb Valley and hopefully enjoying the weather. I haven't planned an event of any size for about 16 years, so I apologise if there were any errors. I think the brown courses was a great success but unfortunately I could not stretch any others to Burbage mines. This left the Blue a bit frustrated, and from the results the green a bit tough. I have learned a lot about using CONDES and about getting a map print done earlier in the planning process to iron out problems of control visibility.
I cannot thank Colin enough for his help. Thanks to him and Tim,Colin, Peter and Jill for helping control collecting.
Thanks to those who found time to chat with me about their courses at the finish, and all the positive and constructive comments they made.

Controller's Comments

is a difficult area to plan courses which meet guidelines or which are comfortable and pleasurable. A number of compromises had to be made & these were thought through by Lucy & myself.

Working with Lucy was a pleasure as she worked hard, was always cheerful & was composed throughout in planning an event for the first time in a long time since she was even younger. She grappled with the restrictions of the area stoically & with perseverance producing the best courses possible

Most runners provided positive feedback. Some raised valid issues in an appropriate way, but I was surprised at others. I know it is a physical area and some runners were very tired, but please remember we are unpaid volunteers who have put in several days’ work. Even if officials don’t do as good a job as runners would like, they need to be encouraged not discouraged. Some after a difficult run seem to be less considerate of official’s feelings than they would be at other times.

Most courses had appropriate winning times but the fields stretched out a long way with some having quite long times. Orange was overlong & Yellow had a lot of climb but both were difficult to plan otherwise due to the nature of the path network & the steep sides of the valley. Green was more of a Short Blue but at 3.9km, even with the steep climb, we though (erroneously as it turned out) that it would be ok. Many competitors on Brown expressed enjoyment of what we knew was going to be a tough course.

Safety & risk

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.

Photography

SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Read our photography policy.

Privacy

When entering our events your personal details (name, gender, age class & club) will appear in the results section of this website. Read our privacy policy to see how we look after your personal data.

Venue

Limb Valley includes Whirlowbrook Park, Whinfell Quarry Garden and the woods either side of Whirlow Brook.

The woodland is mixed conifer and deciduous.  Much of it is very runnable though partly steep valley sides, but there are patches of bramble and holly.
