Mon 19:15 - Organiser's comments added

Planner's Comments

I hope everyone enjoyed their course, despite the tough brambles and bracken in certain areas. The extent of the undergrowth was a concern in the weeks leading up to the event and necessitated several course adjustments, given that some of the control sites originally chosen proved unreasonably hard to reach. However, exploring the woods and planning the courses has been a real pleasure. My thanks are due to Clive Wilson for many helpful comments and assistance at the event in the role of Controller and to all those who helped collect controls before the light faded.

Organiser's Comments

First of all a huge thank you goes to all the helpers who made it possible for this event to take place - the registration teams, the SI team, the carparking duo, the start teams and the finish teams and others who filled in with important jobs, not forgetting those who put in lots of hard work before the event - Ian Cooper who printed the maps and Peter Tryner who programmed the event in to the computers. A huge thank you is owed to Glyn Telling-Jones for making the excellent facilities at Thomas Rotherham College available to us - hard standing for the car park, indoor registration and four sets of showers and toilets just make the whole experience of orienteering a little more comfortable! I learned from the experience of Bowden Housteads to pay more attention to signage to the event and within the event centre. Unfortunately I took my eye off the British Orienteering fixture list. Consequently I under-estimated the number of competitors and unfortunately had to resort to recycling maps. Those who selflessly gave up their maps should receive a copy in the post before Christmas. If any of you come to Loxley Common on March 16th you find car parking on hard standing, indoor registration, toilets and showers there as well.

Venue

Canklow Woods is a sloping area with a mixture of deciduous woodland, open and semi-open.  All along the top of the slope are the remains of stone workings which provide good contour detail.  The area is criss-crossed by a complex path network.

It is on the edge of Rotherham and very accessible, with the southern boundary of the area being less than a kilometre from junction 33 on the M1.
