Planners Comments

Hope you all enjoyed the race, I tried to keep the courses to the interesting bits of woodland and out of the main areas of undergrowth.  The middle race format does allow us to make use of areas that are too small for a classic race format.  

It started to look like the Black / Brown / Blue were slightly on the long side but a few good runs brought them into the 30 - 35 minute winning time.

For those that arrived at control 210 to find it dead I hope you didn't loose too much time.  We managed to get it replaced pretty quickly once alerted to it.

Quick thank you to Marcus for interupting his run to scare some youths intent on vandalising a control on the White course.

Finally thank you to Melinda for coping with 'Just In Time' planning, also all those who helped hang and retrieve the controls and everyone else who helped on the day.

For the first level C event that I have organised I think that it went quite well. Taking it on only 3 weeks beforehand meant that it was a rush at times but with the help of Colin Best, Pete, Melinda and others, there were no major problems.

An orienteering event wouldn't happen if it wasn't for all the people who volunteered their time and skills on the day. For this event, I had so many offers of help that I had to say no to some people!

I really like bowden housteads - when I was out checking control sites on the hottest day of the year with the butterflies rising up around me and the grasshoppers cricketing away you could have been somewhere much more exotic than a bit of wood either side of the main route out to the M1 and with the biggest Asda round these parts next door. There were 2 challenges for us - one of which Sheffield company Gripple solved - this is a very public area with lots of den building - keeping the controls in the ground would have been impossible without gripples. The second was how to get the white course round a path junction while still giving a control at every decision point. We did this by printing at a much larger scale - lovely to have the flexibility these days. Hope you all enjoyed the courses.
