JK Entries & CSC Heat reminder

JK Entries - 1st entry deadline

SYO are hosting the JK in 2025. This is the UK's biggest annual orienteering event and is a huge undertaking for the club. We hope all our members get involved, whether it's through competing or volunteering or both! This is a fantastic opportunity to attend a major event right on the doorstep and even if you are new to the club / orienteering, there will be courses suitable for you. If you want advice on what to enter, please email Pauline.

As the first entry deadline approaches, there are lots of club members that haven't yet entered! Enter by 31st January to take advantage of lower fees. The JK website can be found here.

You can also sign up to volunteer. Please do so as soon as possible to help our organisers co-ordinate their volunteer teams. Helpers receive a £7 voucher for each helping shift they do which can be used at the event traders for equipment or food.

There is also a fantastic array of JK merchandise available. This must be ordered by 28th February if you would like to collect it at the event. The helper voucher can also be used to receive a £7 discount on the merchandise.

Other major event 1st entry event deadlines

Alongside the JK; the British Long Champs, World Masters and Scottish 6 Days all also increase their prices after 31st January. If you are definitely intending to go, enter now to take advantage of lower entry fees!

CSC Heat - a reminder to enter!

We still need lots more members to sign up for the CSC Heat. We are particularly short of juniors so if you're not away for half term please sign up now! Details as follows:

23rd February is the start of SYO's quest to retain the Compass Sport Cup for an incredible 5th year in a row at our Heat on Ilkley Moor!

For those new to the club / sport, the Compass Sport Cup is an inter-club competition for all ages. Depending on your age and gender, you are allocated a course to run and points are allocated depending on your result. The club with the highest points progresses to the final. The easiest course included in the competition is an orange.

We need as many runners as possible as even non-counters can demote our rivals' counting scores and with a few of our top runners away in Portugal, your presence this year is particularly important. We cannot take qualification for granted, particularly as AIRE will be on home terrain with a large turnout. I would particularly like to encourage those of you who haven't run for the club before to take part especially juniors who have recently graduated to Orange courses. The course you would need to run for your age class is on the event information here

SYO will subsidise entry fees by 50% so adults will pay £5 and juniors £2.50.

The deadline for entries is the 7th February on SYO Teams. If you haven't already, you will need to renew your British Orienteering Membership for 2025. If your name is not on the dropdown list this is likely to be why. It may take a few days to update so if you don't see your name but wish to enter please email Chris

There is also a non-competitive Yellow and Light Green course for those accompanying our team who don't wish to run their competitive course - please note that on the entry form.
