Happy New Year to all our members. If you haven't had chance to renew your membership for 2023, please take a moment to log onto the British Orienteering website and rejoin.

It's a busy month with 4 events coming up! Orienteering is great for boosting your physical & mental health so please put the dates in your diary and come along!

Event 1 - Saturday Series 4, Ecclesall Woods (Sheffield), 7th Jan

Ecclesall Woods is a beautiful ancient woodland and an excellent orienteering area offering challenging technical orienteering to the experienced orienteer along with a good path network for newcomers. There are a choice of 6 different courses catering to all ages and abilities. No need to enter in advance. Just turn up on the day. More details available here.

As usual lots of volunteers required. Please email Pauline if you can help for an hour or so. Helpers receive free run.

Event 2 - Wednesday Evening Event, Beauchief Golf Course (Sheffield), 11th Jan

Are you up for the challenge of night orienteering? Ladies’ Spring Woods and Beauchief Golf Course offer a mix of fast runnable open and steeply contoured deciduous woodland. There is a choice of 4 courses catering for experienced orienteers and newcomers alike. More details here. 

Enter in advance on the SYO entry system by Monday 9th January. We will also be holding a post event social in the club house. Please support the golf club, who are letting us use their facilities free of charge, by ordering a bite to eat. Food should be pre-ordered via the entry system by Sunday 8th January.

We need a couple of helpers on the start and some control collectors. Please email Pauline if you can help. Helpers get a free run - select "helper free run" when entering.

Event 3 - Regional Event, West Haigh (Barnsley) , Sun 15th Jan

Come along to our regional orienteering event in the beautiful woodland and nature reserve of West Haigh and New Springs. Experienced orienteers will enjoyable the runnable terrain and interesting contour detail while newcomers and juniors are well catered for with the extensive path network. More details here.

Enter by Sunday 8th Jan via Fabian4. Lots of helpers required for this event. Please email Amanda if you can help, specifying any job / time preferences. Helpers receive a 50% discount - use code SYOHELPER when entering.

Event 4 - Saturday Series 5, EIS & the Olympic Legacy Park (Sheffield), Sat 28th Jan

Not one but two Saturday events in Jan due to February calendar issues! Alongside the normal white to light green courses which explore the Olympic Legacy Park, there are green and blue courses for over 16s which head out into the challenging urban area around the English Institute of Sport (EIS). This event has the added novelty of the courses finishing along the EIS sprint track! More details here.
