Call for Event Officials
Be an orienteering super-hero!
We have an exciting array of events lined up for 2023 but in order for them to go ahead we need our wonderful club members to volunteer to be event officials! If you enjoy orienteering, have a look at the list below and see if you could plan, organise or control! If it's your first time, we'll appoint a mentor to help you. You don’t need any qualifications to be an organiser or planner but you do need to have completed a controller’s course to be a controller.
Wed 11th Jan - Beauchief Golf Course - organiser
Wed 29th Mar – Loxley – organiser
Wed 19th Apr – Wharncliffe – organiser
The Wednesday evening events are the easiest event official jobs as you are mainly responsible only on the day. I will set up entries, complete the RA and sort helpers in advance. The organiser just needs to come and collect the equipment and then set up and pack down on the night, make sure everything’s running smoothly and return the equipment at the end. These are perfect first time organiser jobs, although experienced organisers are also welcomed with open arms!
Sat 28th Jan – EIS & Olympic Legacy Park – planner
Wed 1st Mar – Lees Hall Golf Course – planner
Our Saturday Series and Wednesday Evening events are ideal for first time planners. There’s a succinct guide to help you and it’s a great way to improve your orienteering technique. Finding a planner for the 28th Jan is the most urgent of all the event official vacancies. It’s a great event to plan because it is very rewarding seeing all the juniors racing round and everyone is very appreciative!
Finally we have 3 regional event official positions that need filling:
Sat 4th Feb – Bowden Housteads – organiser & controller
Sun 30th Apr – Wombwell – organiser

The good news is that Susan Guy has agreed to become the new event officials co-ordinator – thank you Susan! It would be great if we could get these positions filled before she takes over so she has an easy first few months in role! Please email me if you can help or have any questions.
