Summer Orienteering

Just a reminder of what's on over the next couple of weeks....

Coronation Park - Tues 23 August - 1-3pm

This is a free activity in Coronation Park, Oughtibridge funded by the Friends of Coronation Park. There are 3 short courses ranging in length from 500m to 1.5km and is ideal for families with primary age children. There's no need to pre-register - just turn up on the day.

Calver Score - Wed 24 August - 5.45-6.45pm

This score event uses an extract from the 1:25000 OS map and explores the footpaths surrounding Calver. More detaills here. There is a choice of a 60 minute or 90 minute score course, with the aim of finding as many of the controls as you can within the time limit. The course uses the MapRun mobile phone/Garmin Watch app. There are no controls out but the app will beep to notify you when you reach the correct point. You will be given a printed map. Alternatively, there is a quiz option with a written questions to answer if you prefer.

The main score courses include road crossings so are not open to under 16s unless accompanied by an adult. There is a junior score course, which can be entered by experienced under 16s. This course will have 5 less controls on it and won’t cross any roads. Juniors wishing to run the junior score should enter the 60 minute score on the entry system.

This event must be pre-entered using the SYO entry system by Tuesday 23^rd August at 12 noon. Pairs / groups are welcome – just pay for one entry. If you are an adult shadowing a junior – pay for a junior entry. You may wish to request an extra map.

Ecclesall Woods - Sun 4 Sept - 10.30am-1.30pm

We have a fabulous 2 part event to celebrate SYO's 50th anniversary complete with super prizes. Full details available here.

Part 1 is the Yorkshire Middle Champs, while part 2 is a fun score event using a composite map of Ecclesall Woods with extracts through the decades. 

Entries are now open on Fabian4 and close on Sunday 28th August.

We will require lots of volunteers to enable this event to run smoothly. Helpers receive a 50% discount to the Middle Champs; enter using code SYOHELPER. Volunteers are advised not to enter the score element as they will receive a free entry on the day. We will do what we can to enable helpers wishing to run both the middle and the score and will extend start slots to allow this. If you have any job / time helping preferences or are non-running helper please email Robyn.

Round Sheffield Orienteer – until 31^st August.

The Round Sheffield Orienteer can be completed anytime before 1^st September. Following the route of the 15-mile Round-Sheffield walk, the Round Sheffield Orienteer comprises of several orienteering course stages. Complete the stages all in one go (The Full Monty) or over several sessions.

Results and timing will be via the Maprun app. Anyone can take part at a time and pace convenient to you.

Maps are available from My Race Kit North running shop on Sharrowvale Rd and cost £2 or you can just use the map on the Maprun App.

A variety of prizes will be awarded following the culmination of the competition on 31st August.

Please note juniors intending to take part in the British Schools Champs in November are not allowed to complete the Graves Park stage. This stage will not be included for the purpose of calculating results for junior prizes!
