buttonStage Win for Aidan Smith in O Ringen
Aidan Smith finished third place overall in the M13 category at the Swedish 5
Days in the mountainous terrain of Salen. His week of strong results included a stage win on Day 3 and a second place on Day 4. The junior classes at the O Ringen are tightly contested and Aidan fought off some tough competition to come in third overall after a chasing start on the final day.

Other good SYO results included a 2nd place for Pete Gorvett on Day 4, his training on the fells no doubt paying off on a challenging downhill course after taking a chair lift up to start above the tree line.

Aiden wins Stage 3!

buttonGarmin Ultrasprint at Cliffhanger
Another successful Ultrasprint race was held at the Cliffhanger outdoor festival in Millhouses Park on Saturday 12 July. Over the two rounds the eventual men's winner was Matt Crane, and women's winner was Alice Leake.

After the Ultrasprint members of the public were able to try novice courses in the labyrinth, and literally hundreds did! The team of SYO helpers were overwhelmed with demand from people, especially kids, to give it a go. Full report

SYO are having a Summer Social Event on Sunday 22nd June.  The event will comprise some sort of Orienteering on the Walkley Street Map – could be individual, could be teams/relay to be made on the day, could be something else.  It will be followed by a BBQ.  The O’ing is likely to be held in the afternoon with the BBQ going on into the evening.  Everyone is welcome.

buttonTriple trophy success for SYO at the Harvester Relays.  SYO teams won 3 of the 7 classes at the Harvester Relays competition held near High Wycombe.  The overnight relays, for teams of 7 in the A course and teams of 5 on the B course, were held in the Chilterns on an area that was technically quite challenging, with large patches of holly in the forest making accurate navigation difficult, especially at night.

SYO won the Harvester Trophy (Mens Open, on the A course), the Handicap Trophy (also on the A course) and the Womens' Handicap Trophy (on the B course).  Team members enjoyed a champagne breakfast with bacon butties in the morning sunshine - thanks and well done Tim as Club Captain.  Harvester Results page

buttonBritish Championships success
Congratulations to Oli Johnson for retaining his M21E British Champion title, and all the other SYO and ShUOC successes. Link to BOF article

Other SYO British Champions are Bill Edwards (M40L) and Peter Gorvett (M60L), while in the relays SYO won the M40 and W40 categories, with 2nd and 3rd places in several other classes.

The Culbin sand-dune forest was great, and so too was the weather.  An excellent weekend all round, and well worth the long trip north.
