buttonThe Harvester night relays take place at Henley on 17th/18th May, and club captain Tim Tett will be looking to form several strong SYO teams for the event.  Expect to see an email or message on the Forum from him soon, seeking volunteers for the teams.  More details here
buttonThe British Elite championships at Middle and Sprint distance took place on 5th/6th April.  Excellent results for SYO, including a win for Matt Crane at Middle distance, and some other highly placed SYO runners, as reported on the BOF news pages. BOF report here
buttonAt the JK international orienteering weekend held in southern England over the Easterweekend, SYO members obtained JK women's teamseveral podium places but only one overall winner, who was Kelly Candy on W21N.  In the relays on Easter Monday the Junior (M/W40-) team achieved 3rd place, theWomen's Open team (Jo Stevenson, Grace Elson, Jenny Johnson) got 2nd place and the Senior Men (120 ) team (Martin Ward, Mark Chapman, Charlie Adams) won, retaining their trophy from last year. buttonBritish Orienteering Board of Directors. 
Martin Ward was elected to be a BOF director at the AGM held at the JK.  SYO now has two members on the board of ten people, with the other being Jenny Peel, BOF Treasurer.  The first meeting of the new board is on 16th April.
buttonInterland, 1st/2nd March. 
SYO members Nick Barrable, Mike Sprot and Martin Ward were part of the England team that competed at the annual Interland competition, this time held in Holland.  England were again victorious, with Nick Barrable winning the H21 class.  More info here

buttonBritish Night champs were held in the Forest of Dean on 23rd February.  SYO winners were Nick Barrable (M21L), Martin Ward (M40L), Jenny Peel (W40L) and Monika Cooper (W60L).
buttonSYO Training Weekend
The event planned for the Yorkshire Dales is now not going ahead due to lack of coaching staff available, but may be replaced by an event on another weekend. Watch out for further news.

buttonFootpath relay 2008
Please contact Tim Tett, timtett (AT) ttpca.force9.net if you are interested in taking part in this year's Footpath Relay, which is being organised by Ashbourne Rugby Club and will take place on 14th or 15th June. This event is a 24 person, 12 stage relay. Contact Tim for more information. Prompt replies please.
buttonThe recent Northern Orienteering Championships at Arncliffe Wood produced some excellent results for SYO juniors. Trophy winners were: Louise Adams, W10; Michael Adams, M14 and Adam Bradbury M18. Also Aiden Smith got third, and Simon Bradbury 4th, just missed out by 2 minutes on M14.

buttonSYO Successes at Portugal O Meet
Several SYO members have made the trip down to Faro in Portugal for the 2008 Portugal O Meet.

Oli Johnson won the M21E class over the four days beating many top Scandinavians including most of the Norwegian team. Mike Sprot, Rob Baker, Neil Northrop, Clare Leventon and Laura Daniel have also taken several notable scalps during 4 days of top quality competition.

Congratulations are in order for all members of South Yorkshire Orienteers as we have become the 20th British Orienteering club to achieve Clubmark. Thanks must go to Colin Best and Melinda Riley who put a lot of hard work into making this a reality.

SYO member and former World Champion Jamie Stevenson has been named Orienteer of the Year by British Orienteering for his 9th place in the World Champs Long in Kiev in August.
